Riggs apologies to Busch.

Scott Riggs has apologised to Kurt Busch after spinning him into the wall on the second lap of Sunday's Sylvania 300 while his crew chief Rodney Childers, whom Busch accosted in the moments following the collision, says he hopes everything will 'chill out' in time for next week.

The defending Nextel Cup champion lost nearly 70 laps when a very loose Riggs tapped the #97 Roush Racing Ford into the outside wall in turns one and two of the one-mile New Hampshire International Speedway and Busch's immediate reaction set the tone for the rest of the Busch.

After driving his damaged car back to the Nextel Cup garage, Busch climbed on top of Riggs' #10 MBV Motorsports pit box for a chat with Childers. After the two drivers collided earlier this year at Indianapolis, there were talks of a possible revenge strike by Riggs, although Childers disagreed.

"The race track is just real green and he [Riggs] got loose and got into Kurt," said Childers. "But I feel sorry for those guys. I know they're in the Chase. All I can say is, 'Sorry', and go on from there."

"Kurt took us out at Indy when we were running in the top 10 and that was an accident and we forgave him for that. And this was an accident and he'll have to forgive us. So, we'll just have to go on and everybody will chill out tomorrow and forget about this deal, I hope so."

While Busch would go on to gain eight positions after returning to the track and finish 35th, Riggs struggled on with a loose car and finished 28th.

"We didn't have the balance today," said Riggs. "We made some pretty radical changes to the Valvoline Chevrolet before qualifying Saturday and they worked out great. We were hopeful they'd be just as good in race trim as they were in qualifying but it didn't work out that way. We struggled from the beginning of the race."

On the Busch incident, Riggs added to his crew chief's apologies.

"I just got loose in the turn," explained Riggs. "The track was pretty slick at the beginning of the race and I got sideways and got into Kurt. I hate it for him. All the changes we made after practice Friday really seemed to help the car make a good qualifying lap," said Riggs. "But when it came to today, it just wouldn't work during the race. No matter what we did, we just couldn't get it where we needed it."
