Different front bumper to be used at Talladega.

In a move to discourage the overly-aggressive bump drafting that has raised many issues and resulted in many accidents during restrictor-plate races, NASCAR has modified the front bumper for Sunday's Aaron's 499 at Talladega.

After introducing a 'rough driving' penalty and no bumping zones at Daytona, NASCAR has now removed the steel plate that has been in the front bumpers for the restrictor-plate races.

After introducing a 'rough driving' penalty and no bumping zones at Daytona, NASCAR has now removed the steel plate that has been in the front bumpers for the restrictor-plate races.

The resulting bumper is modelled after the one used at other tracks where the speeds are similar such as California Speedway, Michigan International Speedway and Lowe's Motor Speedway.

The front bumper retains its safety and aerodynamic features, but without the reinforcement of the steel plate, which allowed drivers to hit the rear bumper of another car with considerable force and not worry about damaging their radiators and doing terminal damage to the engine.
