NASCAR road race ringer Scott Pruett will be chasing a brace of victories when the Busch Series heads south of the border to Mexico City this weekend, pulling double-duty in the Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates Grand-Am and NASCAR line-ups.
The American, who leads the Grand-Am standings following his victory in the Rolex 24 at Daytona, will also be reunited with winning team-mate Juan Montoya when he assumes control of the #41 Wrigley's Juicy Fruit Dodge alongside the Colombian's #42 Texaco/Havoline entry. Despite their widely-varying careers, both drivers will be making their seventh Busch Series starts.
Surprisingly, the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez event will mark Pruett's first official Busch start for long-time employers Ganassi and Sabates. The sportscar ace made two Nextel Cup appearances for CGRFS last year, piloting the #40 Dodge at Infineon Raceway and Watkins Glen International, resulting in a sixth-place finish, but has represented other teams in the 'junior' competition until now.
He becomes the latest incumbent of the #41 Dodge, which will also feature regular pilot Reed Sorenson and stand-ins David Stremme and Bryan Clauson during the 2007 campaign. After Pruett's outing in Mexico, Sorenson will be back behind the wheel at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the 10 March Busch race.
Montoya, meanwhile, continues his Busch campaign for Ganassi, but is able to concentrate solely on the Busch event as Nextel Cup activities take a week off.
