Ulster GP: Irwin edges Lintin for Supertwins pole
Glenn Irwin has sensationally clinched pole position in the Supertwins class at the Metzeler Ulster Grand Prix.
The British Supersport title contender lapped at 117.993mph to deny Lightweight TT winner Ivan Lintin on the RC Express Kawasaki.
Irwin is riding a Kawasaki ER6 at Dundrod for Ulster team owner and former racer John Burrows as a replacement for Jamie Hamilton, who is continuing his recovery from injury in the wake of his crash in the Senior TT.
The 26-year-old, who made his debut at the event in 2014 - finishing fifth in the Supertwins race - had earlier set the sixth fastest time on his British Championship Gearlink Kawasaki in the Supersport session.
James Cowton (115.712mph) was third quickest to complete the front row in Supertwins practice, with row two consisting of Dan Cooper, Paul Jordan and recently crowned Irish Supertwins champion Derek McGee.
Russ Mountford, Christian Elkin and Alistair Kirk were next, with Andy Lawson rounding out the top ten.
The opening Supertwins race will take place today as part of the Dundrod 150 support meeting following the conclusion of practice.
Meanwhile, Sam Wilson topped the Lightweight times on the Joey's Bar 250cc Honda at 115.303mph to take pole ahead of Neil Kernohan and Paul Robinson.
Elkin led the way in the Ultra Lightweight class on the Bob Wylie Moto3 Honda from Adam McLean and Paul Jordan, clinching pole with a speed of 107.700mph.
