Purchase reassures Oxford faithful.
Oxford Speedway owner Steve Purchase has acted quickly to reassure the club's fans that he is working hard to ensure that speedway continues at Sandy Lane in 2006 and beyond.
Following Nigel Wagstaff's announcement last Thursday night, stating that he had been unable to come to an agreement to continue running Speedway at Oxford, Purchase was quick to pay tribute to his time at the club: "I would like to thank Nigel Wagstaff for his efforts to keep speedway in Oxford over the last three years" said Purchase.

Keen to come to a speedy decision on the future direction for Oxford Speedway, Steve Purchase met with some key figures within the club to discuss the best way forward and a clear direction was agreed upon. Following this meeting Purchase was able to confirm that he is in talks with a prospective buyer for the club: "Our discussions are at an advanced stage to keep Oxford Speedway running and I am hopeful that a deal can be concluded shortly". It seems certain that the club will revert to being known as the 'Oxford Cheetahs' and that it will retain it's place in the Elite League."
Purchase once again underlined his position as far as Oxford Speedway is concerned: "I have always been mindful of the best interests of Oxford Speedway and I shall continue working until a final resolution is in place guaranteeing the continuation of the sport in the county, something which I think is very achievable given the level of interest" he promised.
