Rickardsson joins Oxford - for six weeks.

Speedway fans are to receive a Xmas present that many would never have dreamed possible as the Oxford Cheetahs management are delighted to confirm that six times World Speedway Champion Tony Rickardsson has today signed a contract to join the team in 2006.

Rickardsson, the current World Champion, has always said that a full season of British racing was out of the question but he has agreed to start the season and will ride for the Cheetahs for 6 weeks before concentrating on the defence of his World Championship Crown.

Commenting on his capture, Promoter Aaron Lanney was clearly delighted with his latest acquisition: "Tony is the ultimate professional when it comes to Speedway and to have him ride for me in my first season as a speedway promoter is something very special".

Rumours have been rife that Rickardsson will be replaced by Mikael Max from Sweden however Lanney was distinctly non-committal: "There are several irons in the fire on the team front for when Tony leaves the side and it is far too early for me to be able to make a statement on who his replacement will be".

It will make for a tremendous start to the season for the new look Oxford Cheetahs, and although the opponents are not yet known, the excitement is at fever pitch for opening night on Wednesday, March 15th, 2006 when the tapes rise and the Cheetahs will once again roar.
