Bandit Bergstrom

Hot on the heels of Berwick's first signing for 2006, Cumbrian, Craig Branney, comes news that the Berwick management have excelled themselves with the signing of a new Swede to British League racing, and he is the exceptional 27-year-old from Kroken, Andreas Bergstrom.

Berwick have had precious few Swedes in their line-ups over the years, most notably one Jimmy Nilsen from that unforgettable year of 1991, but Bergstrom comes highly recommended with a superb run of results to his name.

His only experience of the UK came 2 years ago when he was part of a touring Swedish side, when he blew the Glasgow track apart with speed records going his way on his first ever viewing of the place.

He started his career in Sweden with Masarna, before moving on to Vargarna and latterly Getingarna, but now sees his future within the bounds of UK Speedway.

"Andreas is a superb rider, "Said Boss-man Peter Waite last night, "He is super-keen to ride for the Bandits and has a great string of fine wins over very fine opposition riders as well. He is so keen to make it big with the Bandits he has asked to move in to the town as his UK home base, and if anyone can help in this matter they should contact us as soon as possible.

"Andreas will be a massive hit with our fans and we are foreseeing a number one position for this man. He could well be Berwick's next super star - I have full belief in his ability."

Bergstrom also worked as a part-time fireman in his home town, but now looks to the shale for his fireworks full time in North Northumberland. His signing is heralding the most exciting new chapter of Berwick Speedway for many a year.

A third signing is expected for release this coming Wednesday morning.
