Diamonds go down in Glasgow.

The meeting hadn't even started and there were problems for the Newcastle team. Some two hours earlier the Glasgow promotion lodged a complaint against Newcastle's use of Edinburgh's Derek Sneddon in place of the banned Jamie Robertson.

Glasgow said that Sneddon has a higher average than Robertson and the rulebook says averages still matter for all guest. The Management Committee agreed with Glasgow but then lager changed their minds and allowed Sneddon to ride on the basis it was Grade A - for Grade A reserve.

George Stancl took the heat win followed by David McAllan and Christian Henry. Danny Bird had engine failure at the tapes after being late out kicking off the match 2 - 4. Stancl came up the inside of McAllan lap 2.

Derek Sneddon nearly managed to swoop round the outside of James Cockle on the 2nd bend lap 1 but Robert Ksiezak shuffled him back to 3rd place. Glasgow were always the dominant team throughout the meeting with Newcastle getting nothing more than the occasional 4 - 2 but predominantly 3 - 3s which wasn't enough to have any hopes of getting near Glasgow never mind winning the meeting.

Stancl took the win in heat 5 for another 3 - 3 after Christian Henry fell on the final bend after trying all sorts of attempts to pass Lee Dicken. Taking the score line to 17 - 13. Adam McKinna produced some superb skill holding off David McAllan to hold onto 3rd place.

In heat 7 Ksiezak was excluded for Tape touching and was replaced by fellow reserve James Cockle. Then Josef Franc fell on the 2nd bend, with the face final continuing with Cockle taking the win, followed by team mate Shane Parker then Manuel Hauzinger. Dicken demolished the fence in heat 9 lap 2 bend 3 with McKinna claiming 3rd place. Dicken was lucky to walk away but was later withdrawn from the meeting. The race was awarded as a win for Kauko Nieminen, James Grieves and McKinna.

Team Manager George English said:" This was a match we should of won or at least run them close, especially as we have ex-Glasgow riders in our team. We need to make sure we turn this score line around tomorrow at home."
