The promoters of the BSPA made a huge step towards lifting the profile of major domestic events in British Speedway at the weekend by forming a specialist 'shared event committee' that will be headed by King's Lynn co-promoter Jonathan Chapman.
The BSPA chairman Pete Toogood explains what the idea of the committee is 'it is no secret that the over the past few years we have seen a decline on the gate figures at major events overall, we are not 100% sure of the reason for this but we need to turn it around and bring these events back to the forefront of their yearly calendars to sit alongside the British GP as 'must see events ',
I am sure that this committee headed by Jonathan Chapman who is full of enthusiasm will be able to turn it around and in years to come we will be hosting all these events in front of packed stadiums.'
The committee also consists of experienced Reading promoter Jim Lynch, Sheffield supremo Neil Machin and Eastbourne newcomer Bob Brimson, 'this team will be brilliant, with a mix of youth, experience and showmanship, we will all be sitting down together at the BSPA offices next Monday to take our next step forward with the events and one of those steps will be to find the right venue for each meeting, we will then look at branding, admission, entertainment and dates,
one of the other things we will also do is consult our plans with the SRA to gain full support and commitment from the riders, it's a very exciting time for British Speedway and hopefully in January we will be ready to re-launch these events!'
