Giovinazzi confirmed for Le Mans debut with Ferrari

Ferrari Formula 1 youngster Antonio Giovinazzi will make his debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2018 after being named as part of the AF Corse team's line-up in the GTE-Pro class.

Giovinazzi is without a full-time race programme for 2018 after missing out on a Sauber F1 seat, but will make his first FIA World Endurance Championship start since November 2016 when he teams up with Toni Vilander and Pipo Derani in the #52 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GTE Evo for Le Mans.

Ferrari Formula 1 youngster Antonio Giovinazzi will make his debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2018 after being named as part of the AF Corse team's line-up in the GTE-Pro class.

Giovinazzi is without a full-time race programme for 2018 after missing out on a Sauber F1 seat, but will make his first FIA World Endurance Championship start since November 2016 when he teams up with Toni Vilander and Pipo Derani in the #52 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GTE Evo for Le Mans.

AF Corse confirmed its additional drivers for Le Mans on Wednesday, adding Giovinazzi and Derani to the entry previously run by Risi Competizione, its North American counterpart which races in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

The team also announced that 2017 GTE-Pro class winner Daniel Serra, previously of Aston Martin, will join defending world champions James Calado and Alessandro Pier Guidi for Le Mans in the #51 Ferrari, with Miguel Molina being drafted in to race with regulars Sam Bird and Davide Rigon in the #71 entry.

Giovinazzi has two WEC appearances to his name, having raced for Extreme Speed Motorsports in Fuji and Shanghai in 2016, finishing the races fourth and second respectively.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans takes place on June 16-17.
