Question mark remains over Alonso’s WEC future
Fernando Alonso remains unsure over his future with Toyota in the FIA World Endurance Championship, saying there is a “question mark” beyond the end of the current season.

Having already won Le Mans and ticked off a second leg of the unofficial ‘triple crown of motorsport’ accolade he is chasing, Alonso’s focus has shifted to the Indianapolis 500. Other projects such as the Dakar Rally are also piquing the Spaniard’s interest.
Should Alonso extend his WEC foray with Toyota into a second season, he would need to commit to a deal running to June 2020, leaving him unsure of where his priorities will lie.
“I will have to think. There is definitely time to think now in the coming months,” Alonso said.
“Right now, I don’t want to get too deep on that thinking, because the Indy 500 is going to take all my focus. For the future, it will depend on what I do after the summer, what are the projects that are coming, where I will switch my focus.
“The WEC, after winning Le Mans and Daytona at the beginning of the year, and Sebring a couple of weeks ago, it’s a question mark if I commit to that.
“Also because it ends in 2020 July and it’s quite a future commitment. I have to think and be sure of that.”
The 2019-20 WEC campaign will begin with the 4 Hours of Silverstone on September 1, with Le Mans set to once again stage the season finale on June 14, 2020.
