Kobayashi fastest in final Spa WEC practice

Kamui Kobayashi closed out practice for the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps at the head of the timesheets after finishing over two seconds clear of the field for Toyota.

After slipping behind privateer team SMP Racing in FP1 and losing any dry running in FP2 to rain, Toyota managed to strike back in final practice for this weekend's FIA World Endurance Championship round as Kobayashi set the fastest time of the weekend so far.

A best lap of 1m54.105s gave Kobayashi top spot in the #7 Toyota TS050 Hybrid, as he lapped 2.2 seconds clear of Kazuki Nakajima in the sister #8 Toyota. It also saw him comfortably beat the 1m56.264s lap set by Sergey Sirotkin for SMP Racing on Thursday that was the previous benchmark.

SMP Racing was left to settle for third and fourth overall, led by the #17 BR Engineering BR1 AER which finished just three-tenths of a second shy of the second Toyota. Rebellion Racing took fifth and sixth in LMP1.

G-Drive Racing managed to lead the way in LMP2 ahead of the two Jackie Chan DC Racing entries, while Gianmaria Bruni led Porsche to the head of the field in GTE-Pro after a late lap saw him edge out Harry Tincknell and Andy Priaulx in the #67 Ford GT.

Dempsey-Proton Racing took a one-two finish in GTE-Am with its pair of Porsche 911 RSRs, led by the #88 entry.

Qualifying for the WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps gets underway at 2pm BST on Friday.
