Hydrogen-powered prototype to complete Le Mans demo

The Automobile Club de l'Ouest has confirmed that a hydrogen-powered prototype car will complete special demonstration lap of the Circuit de la Sarthe ahead of next weekend's 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The ACO launched 'MissionH24' along with GreenGT as part of its push to advance hydrogen technology in motorsport, having announced its intention to open up a class for hydrogen cars at Le Mans in 2024.

MissionH24 has seen a number of tests take place with a hydrogen-powered prototype, which completed two full laps of the 13km-long track at Le Mans during the test day last weekend.

As a result, it has now been confirmed that the car will complete a show-run in the lead up to lights out for the endurance classic next Sunday.

"Scheduled just a few minutes before the race start (15:00), this will be a world first and a significant milestone in the MissionH24 project spearheaded by the ACO and GreenGT to promote hydrogen power in motor racing," a statement reads.

"Their determination to achieve zero-carbon mobility will be witnessed by a worldwide audience gathered to watch the biggest endurance race of the year. MissionH24’s ultimate goal is to introduce a special hydrogen-powered prototype class at the 2024 Le Mans 24 Hours."
