Jamie Whincup has been excluded from the third V8 Supercar Championship race at Eastern Creek after his Team Vodafone Falcon failed post-race technical inspections.

Whincup had finished the race in fourth place, securing a third place finish from the round in the process, but the team was then found to be in breach of rule C10.1.8 - with incorrect brake rotors in place on the #88 Falcon.

"The error occurred due to the team including a number of 2006 specification discs sets in the truck spares for Eastern Creek which were to be used on the spare car for the team's ride days planned for Tuesday and Wednesday this week," a statement issued by Triple Eight revealed. "It is normal practice to use up redundant stocks of parts on the ride car in this way. Alcon, the suppliers of the control discs for the category in 2007, were happy to confirm to the stewards that there was no performance advantage to be gained from using the older, heavier, 2006 specification discs.

"A simple mistake was made and, whilst there was no performance gain or advantage in running the old spec discs, Triple Eight Race Engineering acknowledge there was a breach of the technical rules and accepts the penalty imposed."

As a result of the mistake, Whincup was excluded from the results of the final race and drops to fifth in the round standings, with Toll HSV Dealer Team ace Rick Kelly moving up to third.

Whincup is now equal third in the championship standings with HRT's Todd Kelly - having previously been set to hold third outright behind Rick Kelly and Garth Tander.
