Steve Johnson has taken his second podium of the V8 Supercar Championship season after a fine weekend of the racing for the Dick Johnson-run Jim Beam Racing team in Bahrain.

Johnson was one of the stars of the weekend for the Ford team as he finished on the podium in the opening race of the weekend behind Mark Winterbottom and Garth Tander and followed it up with a brace of sixth place finishes in races two and three to secure his place on the round podium behind Winterbottom and James Courtney.

"I really enjoyed the racing today and the car is certainly coming on strong toward the end of the season which is a credit to everyone in the team," he said. "It is all their hard work which has got us to this point and we absolutely have the momentum to carry this form into the last few rounds of the year.

"I was really lucky not to be involved in the incident with the two Toll HSV cars at the start of race 3 and the tyres were dropping off a little but I'm just stoked to be standing on the podium again today. We're still working really hard on the cars and looking to finish the rest of the season with a bang."

Johnson wasn't the only person to shine during the weekend with team-mate Will Davison finishing in fourth place. Having finished the opening race of the weekend in eighth place, Davison finished on the podium in race two with a fine third place and then finished race three in fifth for a round result that enables him to climb back into the top ten in the championship standings.

"This is a great lead-up to the final two rounds of the year and it's a fantastic feeling to be up the front again following our recent success at Bathurst," he said. "Well done to Steve and the rest of the team for the results we have had today; the team have turned out two awesome cars. Both cars are straight and relatively undamaged and this is great news for us going into the next round in Tasmania. I'm sure I can keep the momentum going to place myself a little higher up in the championship points by the end of the season."

Team owner, Dick Johnson, didn't attend the Bahrain round but was watching the progress of the team closely from his Gold Coast base. He was understandably pleased with the results, hinting that the iconic Queensland team was on its way back to the glory days of old.

"Steve, Will and the rest of the team have performed admirably to earn the results this weekend," he said. "The development of the cars this year has progressed really well and this is gradually showing through on the track with car speed and the recent qualifying results.

"If you qualify well then it is more likely you will have a good result and avoid all of the carnage than if you qualify mid-field. Going into the last few rounds of the season, if we qualify well then there is every chance that the team can post some similar results at Symmons Plains and Phillip Island."
