Davison denies Lowndes the tonne at Perth
Erebus Motorsport's Will Davison has denied Craig Lowndes a 100th V8 Supercars victory during the closing stages of a dramatic race three at Perth.
The Mercedes E63 driver - who started from seventh on the grid - produced a magnificent late race charge, which culminated in Davison overturning a near three-second gap to Lowndes at the front of the pack before slipping past the Red Bull Commodore with just a handful of laps to go.
Lowndes had looked to be sitting in the pound seat but his dream of clinching a 100th victory at his most successful circuit faded away when his soft Dunlop rubber couldn't match the pace of Davison on the hard tyre.
Behind the top two, Freightliner Racing's Fabian Coulthard put his qualifying woes firmly behind and produced a scintillating fight back through the order to claim the final step on the podium ahead of pole sitter Chaz Mostert in fourth.
The two HRT Commodores of James Courtney and Garth Tander arrived home in formation to finish fifth and sixth after Courtney demoted his team mate after carving his way back through the field from starting eleventh.
Nissan's James Moffat was able to consolidate his top-ten starting slot with a season best finish of seventh position ahead of the equally impressive effort of Nick Percat, who was eighth in the LD Motorsport Holden.
David Reynolds was ninth aboard The Bottle-O Falcon FG X while Michael Caruso made it two Nissan's to finish in the top ten in tenth.
