Double delight for van der Mark at Donington Park

Full World Superbike race two results from Donington Park

Michael van der Mark has completed a stunning double victory race weekend at Donington Park for Pata Yamaha while World Superbike rookie secured a maiden podium finish in second ahead of defending champion Jonathan Rea.

After van der Mark’s breakthrough victory on Saturday at the British track, the Dutch rider produced a measured charge through the pack to take a dramatic double victory.

While Pata Yamaha teammate Alex Lowes led from pole position for the opening laps, the race came to life in the final third as Rea tussled for the lead against his fellow countryman. Rea dived up the inside of Lowes at Goddards dart to the front at the end of lap 17 which disrupted his rival's momentum to see van der Mark sneak into second place one corner later past his Pata Yamaha teammate.

While Rea looked to sprint clear at the front it brought van der Mark along with him and the Dutch rider made an opportunistic move up the inside at the Melbourne Loop on lap 18.

The Pata Yamaha rider produced his own late race blast to pull out a lead over the final three laps, while Rea became embroiled in a fight with Razgatlioglu who notched up an impressive final lap fight.

The Puccetti Kawasaki rider, who barged past Lowes at the Old Hairpin on lap 20, pulled off an identical move on Rea on the final lap to secure second place ahead of the championship leader who will have to wait for his historic 60^th career race win.

With Lowes fading late on in fourth place, Chaz Davies rescued a nightmare round for Aruba.it Racing Ducati to take fifth place ahead of Kawasaki’s Tom Sykes as Milwaukee Aprilia’s Lorenzo Savadori faded late on to seventh place having challenged for the podium spots.

Leon Camier completed a strong comeback from three broken ribs for Red Bull Honda with eighth place ahead of MV Agusta’s Jordi Torres as Loris Baz rounded out the top 10 for Althea BMW.

Marco Melandri’s miserable race weekend at Donington Park was completed with 11^th place for Ducati ahead of Orelac Racing Kawasaki’s Leandro Mercado and Red Bull Honda’s Jake Gagne.

World Superbike wildcards Luke Mossey (Pedercini Kawasaki) and Bradley Ray (Buildbase Suzuki) rounded out the points places.
