2007: Stays at a downsized PSG-1, Kawasaki's official WSBK team, alongside Regis Laconi. Despite increased factory support, PSG-1 fails to make the step forward expected and Nieto finishes the year 12th in the championship, two places behind Laconi, but unlike Regis takes one pole position and a podium finish, the latter on his final ride for the team at Magny Cours.
Makes MotoGP debut, with Kawasaki, standing in for the injured Olivier Jacque at the French Grand Prix. Qualifies 19th but finishes 11th in the wet race.
2006: First full season at PSG-1 Kawasaki where he is joined by Chris Walker and Regis Laconi. Improves considerably, finishing a solid 10th overall, just behind 2006 race winner Walker in overall standings and comfortably ahead of Laconi. Takes his first WSBK podium finish with a third place in race two at Assen.
2005: With no competitive MotoGP options available, Nieto switches to WSBK by signing to ride for the satellite SC Carrachi Ducati team but then moves to PSG-1 Kawasaki late in year after a difficult season. Finishes 17th in championship.
2004: Decline continues as Nieto finishes just seventh overall for Repsol-Aspar Aprilia team, with only one third position to his credit, and promptly declares it was his last year in 250cc racing.
2003: Keeps Repsol, Telefonica and Aprilia backing and is tipped to fight for title but slips to fifth in standings with one victory and one pole position for his efforts.
2002: Breakthrough year in which Nieto takes four victories and nine pole positions on his way to second behind Marco Melandri in the 250cc World Championship, riding for the Telefonica-Movistar Repsol Aprilia team.
2001: Fifth in the 250cc World Championship with Valencia Circuit Aspar Team. Scored 167 points.
2000: 14th in the 250cc World Championship racing for Antena 3 Yamaha -d'Antin.
1999: Rookie year in the 250cc World Championship racing for Yamaha. Scored 10 points and was classified 23rd in the overall standings.
