Morais to skip Russian round, Noyes steps in
Kenny Noyes will ride in the Russian round of the World Supersport Championship at the Moscow Raceway after being drafted in to replace the injured Sheridan Morais at PTR Honda.
The South African was left nursing a shoulder injury following an accident back at Assen in April, one that doctors initially recommended a two month recovery time for.
Since then, Morais has continued racing but having struggled to mount a challenge for race wins feels now is the time to spend time rehabilitating in an effort to come back stronger for the remaining rounds of the year.
"I think that this recovery time is vital to our success at the end of the season. If we can challenge towards the end of the season the bumpy start will be forgotten.
"Of course I am not happy to be missing the Moscow round but it's either run around anywhere from fifth to 10th position in pain for the rest of the season or take this time off to recover properly so that we can come back strong and get the results that both myself and my team deserve."
In his place comes former Moto2 racer Noyes, the Spanish-based American happy to be getting some additional WSS mileage on the PTR Honda after riding a privateer Suzuki during the Silverstone round in 2012.
"I am just going to do my best and get used to the bike and track ASAP. The bike, track and team are all new to me. I rode at Silverstone last year in WSS on a different bike and got some time on the Pirelli tyres that were good. We will give it our best effort and see where we are after the practice and qualifying sessions, a top 10 finish for sure would be a goal."
Morais is currently classified 12th overall with a best finish of fifth place at Portimao.
