Clarke: 90% chance my racing career is over
Nottingham's Kieran Clarke has cast doubt over the future of his racing career as he battles back from a near-fatal accident suffered at Donington Park in May.
At the start of the season Clarke had made his long-awaited return to the World Supersport championship with CIA Landlords Insurance Honda having previously rode in the series for PTR in 2012.
A week before his horrific accident he had scored his first World Supersport championship point of the year at the East Midlands circuit and after fighting back from intensive care he still remains on the road to recovery after six months out.
The 30-year-old has undergone multiple surgeries and suffered a number of setbacks and says it is unlikely he will be able to return to racing due to his condition.
"Unfortunately, the situation with my kidneys is still pretty serious, any sort of impact or trauma could cause an instant blood clot," Clarke said on the World Superbike website. "Every day feels like Groundhog Day! So boring.
"At the moment, it's looking 90% certain this crash has retired me from competition, very upsetting but I'm also very fortunate for how things went in the end.
"We didn't realise all of my injuries but I was over a month in hospital with lots of surgeries and complications," he added. "There is a chance I'll make a full recovery but it's going to take a long time. I cannot complain as they did not expect me to make it through the night - I was that critical."
Clarke had been combining his racing as a film stuntman before his accident but is looking to restart his movie work once he returns to a manageable state of health.
"On a more positive note, I've got a couple of movies next year as a stuntman that I'm hoping I am going to be ready for," he said.
