Terol signs for Schmidt Racing MV Agusta
Former 125cc world champion Nicolas Terol has signed for privateer team Schmidt Racing and will ride an MV Agusta F3 675 in the World Supersport championship.
The relatively inexperienced team is hoping to benefit from Terol's vast knowledge to help it develop the MV Agusta into a competitive package in 2016.
The 27-year-old has limited experience in the middleweight category with MV Agusta, after he stepped in for the injured Jules Cluzel for MV Agusta Reparto Corse for the final three rounds of the 2015 World Supersport season.
After Cluzel re-signed with the new-look Forward-run MV Agusta squad for 2016, Terol has been picked up by Hungarian team Schmidt Racing and says he had his heart set on staying in the World Supersport class in 2016.
"I will be returning to ride in World Supersport. It is a category I like, as I already knew 600cc bikes very well from my time in Moto2," Terol said. "It is the only place I have wanted to be racing in 2016. I am very happy and motivated by this new adventure."
The 2011 125cc world champion graduated into Moto2 between 2012-2014 before an unsuccessful stint with World Superbike squad Althea Racing earlier this year.
After being axed by the World Superbike team, Terol quickly bounced back after being picked up by the WSS MV Agusta squad and duly impressed by taking fifth place at Jerez on his debut outing, following it up with 14th at Magny-Cours after starting from the pitlane and ended the year with fourth place in Qatar.
