After a nasty off at the 2018 season opener in Australia, Sofuoglu missed the Thailand round having re-injured his pelvis which he broke last year at the Magny-Cours round.
Sofuoglu was replaced by Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman for the Thai race weekend and Puccetti Kawasaki have selected experienced South African Morais as the Turkish rider’s temporary stand-in for the back-to-back Aragon and Assen rounds.
Despite four years away from the World Supersport championship, Morais enjoyed a winning return in 2017 with Kallio Racing Yamaha with victory in Germany plus second place at Aragon before going on to finish the campaign in fourth place in the riders’ championship.
“I am extremely excited about this opportunity with Kawasaki Puccetti Racing,” Morais. “I am really looking forward to working with Kawasaki again as a they gave me my rookie season in WorldSSP.
“I got some good results and my first ever podium, so I have good memories. The same people are still working with Kawasaki and doing a great job, bringing world titles and so on.
“After the strong season I had last year I am really confident to bring my experience back onto the Kawasaki and hopefully some wins and some trophies.”
No timetable has been given for Sofuoglu's recovery with the fifth round of the 2018 World Supersport championship at Imola scheduled for May 11-13.
