Sebestyen re-signs with Evan Bros. Yamaha for 2022 WorldSSP season
Peter Sebestyen and Evan Bros. Yamaha will continue for a second WorldSSP season in 2022 after the team confirmed the expected news.
Sebestyen, who began the 2021 season without a ride, joined the Evan Bros set-up from Assen until the end of the year.
The Hungarian rider was alongside 2021 series runner-up Steven Odendaal which was expected to remain the same for 2022.
However, with the team needing its riders to help fund their rides and Odendaal feeling his performances justified not doing so, the two announced their split nearly two weeks ago.
But with that said, Sebestyen is ‘really happy’ to be staying with the Yamaha outfit after late season improvements saw him claim five top ten results in six races: "It's no surprise that I'm really happy to stay with the team. I gained a lot of experience last season, which will certainly help me in 2022.
"I'm confident because during the winter I'll be able to work on what have been my weak points: I'm looking forward to the start because I'm very motivated, as is the team.
"I am aware that the new rules will make the season special and interesting, but I know I can count on the team's great skills."
A replacement for Odendaal is yet to be confirmed by the team, but unlike several teams who have previously gone from a two-rider set-up down to one, that’s not expected to be the case for Evan Bros. Yamaha.
Speaking about Sebestyen remaining with the team, Team Principal, Fabio Evangelista added: "We are very happy to have renewed our agreement with Sebestyen and HUMDA for the 2022 season.
"Last season Peter joined the team after the season had already started, without having tested, while now he can prepare his year in the best way.
"He is a guy with great potential, which we hope he will be able to express with our help. We will do everything we can to live together with Peter and HUMDA a season to remember."
