Lucas Mahias has clinched victory in the 2019 World Supersport championship finale in Qatar, as Randy Krummenacher seals the title in fifth place.
With Krummenacher fighting for the world title against Bardahl Evan Bros Yamaha team-mate Federico Cariscaulo and GMT94 Yamaha’s Jules Cluzel, a tense title-decider got underway at the Losail International Circuit with Cluzel darting into the lead.
Clearly feeling the pressure of the title-defining race, both Caricasulo and Krummenacher made early mistakes to drop down the order as Cluzel was chased by Mahias.
But with Krummenacher knowing he could wrap up the world title finishing directly behind his team-mate the Swiss rider stalked the Italian for the entire race.
Despite Corentin Perolari acting as a potential disrupter late on, Krummenacher held his nerve to take fifth place to clinch the world championship.
Cluzel, who ultimately needed to win in Qatar to stand any chance of stealing the title, missed out to Mahias in second place with the Puccetti Kawasaki rider taking his second win of the year.
With Cluzel missing out in second place, Kallio Racing Yamaha’s Isaac Vinales claimed a third consecutive podium to cap an impressive end to his rookie campaign in the World Supersport championship.
Caricasulo took fourth place to see his title bid come up short with Krummenacher in fifth place as he passed Perolari at the chequered flag.
Further back Raffaele De Rosa grabbed seventh place on the MV Agusta beating Hikari Okubo on the Puccetti Kawasaki and Kyle Smith on the Pedercini Kawasaki as Ayrton Badovini rounds out the top 10 on the sister Pedercini bike.
