Hondas excluded in wake of Hungary, Morocco
The cars of Honda Racing Team JAS and Zeng Motorsport have been excluded en masse from the results of FIA WTCC races in Hungary and Morocco because of alleged floor irregularities.
A three-person panel of stewards, which convened at this weekend's round at the N?rburgring Nordschleife, reviewed the post-competition technical reports from both events, prepared by the FIA technical delegate, and also heard submissions from representatives of both entrants before concluding that sections of the flat floor from cars of Norbert Michelisz (#5 Honda Racing Team JAS), Rob Huff (#12 Honda Racing Team JAS), Tiago Monteiro (#18 Honda Racing Team JAS) and Ferenc Ficza (#55 Zeng Motorsport) did not comply with the 2016 technical regulations.
The non-compliance was described in the FIA stewards' report as differing to the part submitted on both the cars' homologation form and the part presented during the homologation inspection. In addition, the part's construction was not in compliance with the definition of composite applicable at the time of the homologation.
The only decision that they felt was then open to them was to exclude all four cars from the two events, although Honda Racing Team JAS has already served notice of its intention to appeal.
